Water Over Wine

about

This was created while I was in a bad position at the time. The only way I knew how to confront it and possibly shed some light and understanding on it was to write it down.

Before the writing process had begun I was lucky enough to meet David Hodges, a local musician, who was, and still is, selling beats. I came across this instrumental he had put up for sale a while ago but no one ever grabbed it. So I did.

I didn't know exactly what to write to it but, like other artists especially Hip-hop heads, sometimes when you hear a certain sound it invokes a feeling within you and you almost know what you COULD write to it without consciously knowing the whole process or the fine details. You go with your gut essentially.

In the end, I sat down with it and wrote the entire song, hook and all, within a day or two. Fine tuned a few details and recorded it. I was able to overcome the situation I had been in and move forward with a piece of the memory kept through song.

I hope you enjoy it!

lyrics

Verse 1:

He Wasn't Made Like The Great Types,
No Fame Hype, A Lame Knight
Who Had Late Night Stage Fright.../
Aged Sight But Emotions Kept Holding,
Molding His Perception, Self Inception.../
Kept Him From True Love, To Break Barriers,
She'd Come With Open Arms, He'd Make Carriers.../
But What's Scarier; He Couldn't Fight Back,
Or Wouldn't 'Cuz He Figured He Was Made Like That.../
His Mind Was At War With His Heart,
Before He Could Start To See That He'd Been Torn Apart.../
It's More Than Hard To Repair, The Darker The Lair,
The More The Other Martyrs Would Stare.../
So, The Years Passed, He Stuck To Himself,
Kept His Guard Up With His Past Under His Belt.../
Wondering In Doubt If His Vision Would Clear,
But Hope Tends To Choke When You're Living In Fear.../

Chorus:

You Never Really Know Who You Are,
Until You Get Pushed So Far You Have No Choice But To Choose..
Water Over Wine, Waste Or Spend Time,
Mind Over Matter But Who Matters To Mind?

Verse 2:

When There's So many Distractions,
So Many Questions That Need Askin',
But Instead Get Thrown In The Trash Bin,
Nothing's Everlastin',
Yesterdays' Big Star Is A Present Day Has Been.../
It Rises And Grows, Then Tries To Explode,
Can't Help But Think I'll Open Up My Eyes When I'm Old,
I've Tried To Console My Soul, Slow My Roll,
But Seem To Lose Control With The More I Know../
A Prisoner Confined To His Own Mind,
So He Molds Signs,
And Places Them Inside Of Dope Rhymes.../
'Till He Can Break Free Safely,
There's No take 3.../
So Here He Is With His Heart On His Sleeve,
The Bars That He Reads, Seems To Make It Harder To Breathe,
Concentration Partly Depletes, He Starving To Be Free Completely,
But Now He's Starting To See That...

Chorus

Verse 3:

Who Matters To Mind?
Too Busy Trying To Gather Up Dimes, To Survive In This Battle For Time.../
Practically Trying To Cheat Death, But Living Miserable,
Illusions Cloud Our Visuals, And Meta-morph Our Principles.../
I'm A Victim But Not Afraid To, Say Truth,
And Wouldn't Stop Even If I Was Paid To.../
I'll Break Through, One Way Or Another,
So My Subsequent Won't Have To Stay Under Covers.../
And Trying To Figure Out What To Do For The Zero's,
This Melee Lays Waste To The True Super Heroes.../
So I Cast A Tune To Outlast The Gloom,
That's Been Around Since The Legend Of Masamune.../
Mass Consumerism Decides Happiness,
Aim To Be An Asterisk Or High Off Coc' And Acid Trips.../
Blasphemous, What They Sell Is Not,
Gonna Keep Me In This Melting Pot.../
'Cuz You Know That..

Chorus
